Family Fun in Washington County for the weekend of March 1, 2013

Here are some fun things to do in Washington County this weekend…

Trains for Everyone
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 1 to 5 pm
WHERE: Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum, 300 S Burhans Blvd Hagerstown.
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Displays include HO scale model railroad, trains for kids to operate, historic railroad equipment, artifacts and photos
COST: Admission is $4;  50 cents for ages 4 to 12 and free for ages 3 and younger

Maple Sugar Festival
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Saturday  10 am to 2 pm
WHERE: Fairview Outdoor School,  Clear Spring
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: There will be “sap to syrup” demonstrations, free crafts and face painting for children, Pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Green Club at Clear Spring Elementary School in Dining Hall from 8 am to 11 am. Tickets for the breakfast are available for purchase by calling the school at 301-766-08074. Clear Spring High School FFA will be selling soda, water and baked goods. Maryland Maple sugar products will also be available to purchase.
COST: Admission is free.
Sprouting and Spring
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Saturday from 8 am to noon
WHERE: Hagerstown City Farmer’s Market, 25 W Church St, Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Master Gardeners will be on hand to give tips on getting seedlings ready for the outdoor garden
COST: Free
Hot Wheels Day
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Sunday 2 to 5 pm
WHERE: Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Rd, Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars will be on display this Sunday with multiple Hot Wheel track s set up for racing. The public is invited to bring their cars to race.
COST: This event is free and open to the public

WHEN and WHAT TIME: Monday – Saturday – regular mall hours
WHERE: Valley Mall, 17301 Valley Mall Rd, Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Races cars will be on display at the Valley Mall, starting today and will be there thru Saturday, March 9th. Photos will be taken Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and you can meet race car drivers and Miss Queen State on Saturday from 6 to 9 pm.
COST: Free
Are you tougher than a Boy Scout
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Monday evening
WHERE: Leitersburg Cinemas, Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Join in the fun – as the local Boy Scout Council premieres a National Geographic Channel, new reality series of the same name. The show will feature adults competing with the country’s top Boy Scouts.
COST: Free tickets will be given out to the first 400 people BEFORE the event.

Dr Suess Birthday event
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm
WHERE: Chick –fil-A, Wesel Blvd Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Come and celebrate Dr Suess birthday will free activities and giveaways. Children who dress in a “Cat in the Hat” or Thing 1and Thing 2” costume will receive a free four count children’s meal. (one per child, during evening hours only)
COST: Free admission
Lunar Odyssey
WHEN and WHAT TIME: Tuesdays at 7 pm
WHERE: Washington County Board of Education, 820 Commonwealth Ave, Hagerstown
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: ‘”Lunar Odyseey will look at myths and origin theories of Earth’s closet neighbor, the moon. If schools are closed or dismissed early, the planetarium will be closed.
COST: Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for students and children, free for seniors citizens with a Gold Car from Washington County Public Schools. Families will pay a maximum of $10.
